Front wooden board with a varnished image of birds nest in a tree and a bullfinch. Rear board just plain varnished wood. White leather spine with rubbed gilt decoration and titles. All page edges gilt. Inner gilt dentelles. Floral patterned endpapers. Small bookseller label to verso of the front board: "Daniel S. Stacy, Bookseller, 62 Upper St, Islington." Clean text and illustrations throughout, all within a red-lined border. VG.

London, T. Nelson and Sons 1869 Fern ware bindings Mauchline-ware brown wooden boards highly glazed. . 12mo in 8's Leather spine with 5 raised bands & gilt decorations & gilt rules. Spine holding the two wooden covers with the fern silhouetes and gilt decoration to reverses of boards. [Two tips damaged/head & foot of spine rubbed & foot chipped] All edges gilt and all pages printed in red concentric ruled frame with black printed text inside. Half title + titlepage + dedication all include black illustrations + [7]-223pp with the last 52pp of consisting of notes to the poem. The poems are is divided into six cantos with a foliated headpiece and all but the last two cantos with small tailpieces. One marginal tear without loss and a gift inscription to the second free endpaper. This and the one at the end have some mild foxing otherwise the paper is clean and crisp.
